Tom Gutierrez

President, Chief Executive Officer and Director

Tom Gutierrez is GT Advanced Technologies’ president and chief executive officer, and a member of its board of directors.

Gutierrez has extensive international experience in product development, manufacturing, marketing and sales. Prior to assuming his position at GT, Gutierrez served as chief executive officer and a member of the board of directors of Xerium Technologies Inc., a multinational company that develops, manufactures and markets technically advanced synthetic textiles. He was previously chief executive officer of Invensys Power Systems, a $3 billion multinational business and world leader in power control and energy storage products, systems and services for industrial applications. Gutierrez has also held several executive officer positions with Pulse Engineering, Pitney Bowes, Inc. and Motorola, Inc.

Gutierrez holds a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Florida Institute of Technology. He currently serves on the board of directors of Veeco Instruments, Inc, Verso Paper Corp. and PhytoChem Pharmaceuticals, a company he founded.


Rick Gaynor

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Rick Gaynor is GT Advanced Technologies’ vice president and chief financial officer. Gaynor has broad experience in leading and developing successful finance and IT organizations as well as driving M&A activity at several leading high-tech companies. Prior to joining GT, Gaynor was CFO of Sonus Networks, Inc., a leading Voice over IP equipment and software provider. Before joining Sonus, Gaynor was CFO at Sycamore Networks, Inc., a provider of intelligent optical networking products to telecommunications service providers. Additionally, Gaynor has held senior level financial and operational management positions at Manufacturers Services, Ltd., Evans and Sutherland Computer Corporation, and Cabletron Systems.

Gaynor holds a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biology from the National University of Ireland, St Patrick’s College, and a MBA from Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland.


Hoil Kim

Vice President, Chief Administrative Officer, General Counsel and Secretary

Hoil Kim is GT Advanced Technologies’ vice president, chief administrative officer, general counsel and secretary. He is a lawyer and global mergers and acquisitions professional with more than 20 years of experience, including practice with leading law firms in New York, Hong Kong and Boston, as the general counsel of a multinational company and as a specialist in strategic development and emerging markets.

Most recently, Kim headed up strategic development for Cabot Corporation, a global company listed on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), where he played a significant role in the company’s expansion into China and Eastern Europe. In his prior position as general counsel, Kim led an international legal team supporting Cabot's businesses around the world. Previously, Kim practiced law with Dewey Ballantine in New York, as well as with Hale and Dorr (now WilmerHale) in Boston and Pettit and Martin in Hong Kong. Kim began his professional career as a satellite telecommunications engineer and worked on space systems for Intelsat and NASA. He designed the first digital baseband GPS receiver for the US Air Force.

Kim holds a Bachelor of Science degree in engineering and applied science from Yale University and received his Juris Doctor degree cum laude from Georgetown University.


Jeffrey J. Ford

Vice President and General Manager, Asia Photovoltaic and Sapphire Equipment

Jeffrey J. Ford is GT Advanced Technologies’ vice president and general manager, Asia photovoltaic and sapphire equipment. Ford’s career has spanned 30 years.

Prior to joining GT, Ford served as general manager of Kayex, a division of SPX Corporation, a leading developer and manufacturer of semiconductor and photovoltaic single crystal growing furnaces. During his tenure at Kayex, Ford was also vice president of finance and then acting president, and led a Sino-American joint venture in Hangzhou, China, where he established equipment production lines serving worldwide customers.

Ford holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Bonaventure University and has completed executive management courses at Northwestern University relating to mergers, acquisitions, and strategic alliances.


David C. Gray, Ph.D.

Chief Strategy and New Business Officer

David C. Gray, Ph.D., GT Advanced Technologies’ chief strategy and new business officer, brings to the company nearly two decades of experience.

Dr. Gray recently led the acquisition, integration and local facilities expansions of Confluence Solar and Crystal Systems.  Previously he served as GT’s VP/GM of Photovoltaics, North America and Europe.  Prior to joining GT, Dr. Gray headed technology M&A for Canaccord Adams and Alliant, where he founded the Boston office.  Earlier he served as a Principal with Broadview International in Silicon Valley, and as a Senior Engineer with Raychem’s Display Products Group.   He also served as President of Aspect International, a semiconductor equipment design firm he co-founded.

Dr. Gray received his Bachelor of Science degree summa cum laude from Carnegie Mellon University. He holds a master’s degree in business administration from Stanford University and a doctorate degree in chemical engineering/semiconductor processing from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Dr. Gray also holds several patents and has authored 12 major technical publications.


David W. Keck

Vice President and General Manager, Polysilicon Division

David W. Keck, GT Advanced Technologies’ vice president and general manager, polysilicon division, brings to the company nearly 20 years of experience in the design, operation, sales, marketing, and management of polysilicon facilities.

Before joining GT, Keck operated his own consulting business relating to the silicon industry. Previously, he served as vice president of business development, plant manager, and operations manager for Advanced Silicon Materials Incorporated (ASIMI), one of the leading manufacturers of ultra-pure silicon in the world, where he focused on manufacturing silane gas and polysilicon for wafer fabrication companies and semiconductor companies. During his tenure at ASIMI, Keck worked on two major expansions, and had overall responsibility for commissioning and starting up the company’s green-field facility in Butte, Montana. Prior to ASIMI, Keck was a thermodynamics engineer at Lockheed Missiles & Space Corporation.

Keck holds an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from Montana State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Washington.


Vikram Singh, Ph.D.

Vice President and General Manager, PV Equipment Business Unit and Engineering

Vikram Singh is GT Advanced Technologies vice president and general manager, PV equipment business unit and engineering. Singh brings to the company nearly two decades of experience in the capital equipment arena.

Dr. Singh was most recently at Varian Semiconductor Equipment Associates as Sr. Director of New Product/ Business Developments, where he led the commercialization of Plasma Doping technology. He previously served in various roles with increasing responsibility leading to Director of Technology and Key Account Management at Novellus Systems Incorporated, where he led the commercialization of 300mm CVD equipment. He began his career as a Technologist in the R&D division at Lam Research Corporation. Dr. Singh received his Bachelor of Technology with honors from Indian Institute of Technology - BHU.

Dr. Singh holds MS and Ph.D. degrees in Chemical Engineering from Texas Tech University. He also holds 20 patents and has authored over 10 major technical publications.


Cheryl Diuguid

Vice President and General Manager, Sapphire Equipment and Materials

Cheryl Diuguid is GT Advanced Technologies’ vice president and general manager, sapphire equipment and material business. Cheryl brings over 20 years of extensive international leadership experience in numerous multibillion dollar industries, most recently as the CEO of Lumetric, a Silicon Valley start-up, where she led the commercialization of an innovative high-efficiency, energy-saving lighting technology.

At both Xerium Technologies Inc., a multinational company that designs and manufactures highly engineered consumables for the paper industry and Enersys, a global leader in the industrial battery market, Diuguid built the Asian businesses optimizing the global supply chain, rebranding and relaunching the product line, and expanding the business through acquisition and infrastructure investment. At Invensys Power Systems, Diuguid held leadership roles associated with new product development and optimizing multiplant, complex global supply chains. Diuguid began her professional career as a research chemist for Burroughs Wellcome (now Glaxo Smith Kline) before joining Data General’s manufacturing organization eventually becoming the plant manager.

Diuguid holds an undergraduate degree in chemistry from Lynchburg College, a masters degree in chemistry from the University of Virginia, and an MBA from Duke University.


Dr. P.S. RaghavanDr. P.S. Raghavan

Chief Technology Officer

Dr. P.S. Raghavan, is GT Advanced Technologies’ chief technology officer .  Raghavan brings over 23 years of industrial and academic experience in Crystal Growth Instrumentation, Crystal Growth of semiconducting (Silicon, III-V and II-VI) materials,  Oxides, NLO materials, Scintillation detecting materials and advanced electronic and photonic devices. 

Prior to joining GT Solar in 2002, he was involved in crystal growth research and held positions as Visiting Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, NTHU, Hsinchu, Taiwan, Assistant Professor, Crystal Growth Centre, Anna University, and Reader and Head Instrumentation, Alagappa University, India.

Dr. Raghavan holds a masters degree in Physics, and Master of Philosophy degree in Physics and a Ph. D. in Crystal Growth of III-V compounds. He worked as Postdoctoral Fellow at internationally acclaimed laboratories worldwide and has 60 research publications in international journals, 4 patents and 100 publications in National/International conferences.  He has co-authored 3 books on Crystal Growth and has earned several international awards for his contribution to the field of crystal growth technology.
